Outdoor play

There’s nothing better than enjoying the great outdoors, so at Little Ladybirds Day Nursery we make maximum use of our large outdoor play area and classroom.

Come rain (that’s what waterproofs and wellies are made for) or shine, the children in all our nursery rooms have access to this safe and secure area and we ensure they get outside as much as possible during the day.

We have purposefully designed the play area to promote learning through the freedom and challenges that only open space can provide.

We use natural resources and materials as much as we can to stimulate the children through a range of sensory activities and physical play opportunities. This includes:

• A fully equipped mud kitchen.
• Waterway, including various pipes and equipment for children to explore and experiment.
• Creative area.
• Construction area.
• Music hut.
• Wooden playhouse.
• Walking and climbing equipment, including ramps and tyres.

Our under-2s also have their own separate baby garden to allow them to explore the outdoors safely until they are confident on their feet. This area is grassed, and full of resources to support sensory exploration and gross motor skill development.
