There will be no tears at bedtime thanks to a new baby massage and yoga class held at a Stockton children’s nursery.

The Little Ladybirds Day Nursery, which is situated on the Preston Farm Industrial Estate, has teamed up with Baby Beginnings North East to offer the classes to new parents.

The classes, which will be held at the nursery every Wednesday from 10am to 11am, are run by Tracy Addison and Yvonne Dixon, two mums who set up Baby Beginnings to offer a range of pregnancy and baby services in the region.

Aimed at babies from six weeks onwards, the classes involve parents learning how soft massage techniques that have a number of proven key benefits, including:

  • It enhances bonding
  • It improves the stability of the baby’s nervous system
  • It helps with the relief of colic and digestive problems
  • It helps to increase oxygen and nutrient flows to cells
  • As they grow massaged babies tend to be more relaxed and open.

One of the parents experiencing baby massage for the first time was Liz Grylls, who is mum to six-month old baby Sophie.

“It has been great and even after just one session, this is as relaxed as I have seen Sophie,” she said.

Tracy Addison, who runs the class at the nursery, said:

“A nursery is a good environment to hold classes like this because they are already set up with babies and children in mind, and apart from the massage, there is plenty of other things going on to stimulate them.

“The first class was very successful and it means as well as coming back for further sessions, the mums can now begin practising some of the techniques they have learned at home.”

Little Ladybirds Nursery Manager Catherine Mason said:

“We are keen to open the nursery to the community and to offer organisations such as Baby Beginners a venue in which to showcase the excellent work they do.

“These sessions are designed to complement the childcare services we provide and importantly you do not have to have a child at Little Ladybirds to do the baby massage – we are open to everybody.”

Due to demand, the baby massage classes, which cost £42 for six sessions, at Little Ladybirds have to be booked in advance by contacting Tracy on 07740 199778 or emailing
