Children at a Stockton day nursery are getting a wiggle on thanks to an imaginative new music and dance class.

Each week, pre-school children at the Little Ladybirds Day Nursery in Stockton take part in ‘Wigglets’ a learning-based class which covers social and language skills, motor skills and discovering the world using different themes.

Conceived by Sedgefield mum-of three Marie Walker, the 45-minute sessions have themes, including jungle, weather, dinosaurs and magic, and also incorporate props such as musical instruments and hand puppets.

Mel Hirst, Director of Little Ladybirds, said: “The Wigglets classes are very popular and there are always plenty of smiles on the children’s faces when they are taking part.

“As a nursery we are always seeking to create the perfect learning environment and the sessions are perfect because the children are discovering new things, such as how to play an instrument, whilst having fun, so it doesn’t feel like learning at all to them.”

Marie, who runs classes across Teesside and County Durham, said: “I set out to create lively classes with the emphasis on fun, allowing the children to be on their feet using all their creative energy.

“They can do it with their parents, which only add to the fun, and within this we are helping to create an environment covering social and language skills, motor skills and learning about the world using different themes.”
